Ten dollars doesn’t go very r these days – two cups of coffee, a previously viewed DVD, a pair of flip flops – all short-lived. Once you’ve consumed the java, you’re left with a disposable cup. After you’ve watched the DVD, it collects dust on a shelf. And a couple of hikes later, the flip-flops collapse to the point where your toes meet the trail! Wouldn’t you rather spend your hard-earned cash on something that will have lifetime benefits for you, your mily, your community, and your pet?

The research to support spay/neuter as being healthier for a pet is overwhelming. Altering a pet decreases aggression, reduces the odds of it developing certain cancers, and diminishes a pet’s desire to roam into situations where it could be injured by traffic or wildlife. In addition, spaying is less costly (both monetarily and emotionally) than caring for a pregnant female and her offspring, and unaltered males often require expensive veterinary care after literally fighting over a female in estrus.
Spay Day is part of a world-wide effort by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the Doris Day Animal League, and the Humane Society International to help financially struggling pet owners care for their pets. As a result, volunteers from local humane organizations (Forsyth Humane Society, Forsyth Veterinary Medical Association, Humane Solution, Forsyth County Animal Control, Forgotten Felines of Forsyth, 4 Paws Pet Foundation, Animal Adoption & Rescue Foundation, Fur Ever Friends, and the Central Spay, NeTen dollars to spay or neuter? Veterinary personnel, Spanish interpreters, and spay/neuter supporters will be available at several locations on February 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. in order to answer questions and provide vouchers to qualified milies. In addition to the following locations, three more sites will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

The capture, impoundment and eventual destruction of unwanted animals costs taxpayers and private humanitarian agencies over a billion dollars each year. As a potential source of rabies and other less serious diseases, they can be a public health hazard. (American Veterinary Medical Association)
Perhaps the greatest benefits of spay/neuter, however, are to human caretakers.
